JOEYS

Joey’s range from the age of 6 to 8 years. From the age of 7 1/2 years of age the Joey progresses into Cubs. Joey’s meet on Monday evenings from 5.00pm until 6.15 pm, under the control of leaders – Laura Forrester (Bunyip) and youth helpers Adrian Forrester & Stephanie Allen

. Joey’s start with about four to six weeks of getting to know each other and, after learning the Joey Scout Law, A JOEY SCOUT SHARES, A JOEY SCOUT CARES & Promise, I PROMISE TO DO MY BEST, TO LOVE MY GOD, AND BE HELPFUL, they are invested;

where the new Joey is presented with his first badges and is now entitled to wear full uniform. We encourage parents to attend the Investiture Ceremony, which is held at the end of the evening and lasts for about 10 minutes.

Following their investiture, Joey’s pay a weekly subscription of $1.00, which helps to cover the cost of running the weekly program – activities, craft, badges, etc. (this still needs to be paid if you child misses a week) The Joey’s are run as one mob, they are not split into groups. Joey Scout’s are encouraged to attend weekly meetings and the organised outings, if they do so they will earn participation certificates, of which there are 8 of. There is no test for these they are just a reward for turning up to weekly meetings and organised events.

Great mementos of your child’s time at Joey Scouts. There are also 5 badges the Joey Scout can earn to wear on there uniform. The Buddy Badge – earned when participating with another mob for 3 separate events, including a visit to and from the other Mob and a joint outing. The Environment Challenge Badge - earned after participating in several environmentally related activities. Care and Share Challenge Badge - earned after participating in community events that demonstrate a caring and sharing attitude towards others. The Adventure Challenge Badge - earned by participating in 2 adventures not usually undertaken by Joey Scouts. These 4 badges form a diamond on the right shirt sleeve. A more advanced badge, designed for older Joeys is the Promise Challenge Badge. This badge involves research and activities usually undertaken at home in relation to Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouts and the community. Joeys also participate in camps, hikes, day outings and some boating activities.
